Hippo Birdie To Me

March 23, 2008

My birthday was insane, totally partied like crazy. Right. A totally sober birthday.

I fell asleep at 8:00.

We went to vegetarian dim sum at my favorite restaurant. Afterwards, we went to the nature conservatory around where we live. We saw some prairie dogs, snakes, rabbits and lizards. Then we walked around and saw birds and listened to them sing. I had been dying to go there for a while and was psyched to walk around.

We went home and watched No Country For Old Men. It was an amazing movie up until the end. I was scratching my head like: “WTF?”.

We went to Brooklyn to have brunch at Bubby’s, my FAVORITE brunch place. J ordered the fried oyster sandwich. I ate oatmeal with strawberries and bananas which was yummy.

Being in Brooklyn made me realize how much I really like the area. There are cool, young people there, not quite the same where I live. My neighborhood is a bit different, people maybe a bit more conventional. I don’t really have much in common with people in my ‘hood.

Beautiful birthday flowers 🙂

Hottest Mom Ever

March 22, 2008

If she sprouted a tree out of her armpit she would STILL be hot.

And yes, I’m posting this because I have a fear of becoming a frumpy, un-hot person and glad to see examples of hot moms, no matter how unrealistic and unattainable.

America’s Top Model Season 8

March 22, 2008

I’ve been watching a lot of television lately. It’s something that I’m trying to wean myself off of as my sickness starts fading away.

I’ve been watching America’s Top Model from last season and didn’t realize that there were a few moms who ended up being the finalists! This made me happy.

How did Renee get that belly back into shape like that? I don’t think she had Heidi Klum’s money to get back into shape. It gives me hope.

I have this theory about successful people that most of them come from humble beginnings and have a strong desire to succeed (Michael Bloomberg, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison, Chung Kyung Wha [violinist], Albert Camus, Biggie Smalls, Morrisey). I don’t mean destitute to the point where one loses all hope and sinks in to depression. But just enough hardship that fills them with a burning to desire to move beyond their given station in life.

The last three finalists from this particular season all seemed to come from situations that were less than ideal. Two of them weren’t even native English speakers. They might not have been the most conventionally beautiful but they had fight within in them which made them winners.

I know it’s a stretch to compare Ben Franklin and Albert Camus to reality TV models, but it does say something about having hunger for success.

Before I became pregnant, I wasn’t fond of seeing these pictures. They made no sense to me. That of course has changed drastically. Here are some sonogram photos of the baby. While the sonogram technician was kneading my belly like pizza, this little dude was flipping around and wriggling about.

I’ve added another photo to point out what everything is because it’s pretty confusing.

Potential Projects

March 21, 2008

I met with two different people today to talk about two short film projects they’re working on. The first meeting was with V who I met at Starbucks. He’s a friend of an acquaintance I’ve worked with on a few projects. V actually sought me out to collaborate as an actress so that was interesting. V wrote a play which he adapted to a short film. The script needs work and I offered him some things I thought might help it. He’s shooting in June and I don’t know if he can change the script to a pregnant woman, but I’ll run it by him.

The second group I met primarily needed someone to do administrative work, i.e parsing through headshots, calling insurance companies for rates etc. And oh, if I wanted to audition for the film, that was an option too.

Both are interesting options but I’m not sure if they are a good fit yet. I would like to have my own film production company one day and it might be good to learn. At the same time, I have to finish my screenplay and two other films. So I’ll mull on it for a bit.

Short Term Memory Loss

March 20, 2008

Crap!  If I don’t write this stuff down I will completely forget it:

-Call director’s group back for reading on Monday

-Email producer for short film production

-Put on calendar coffee tomorrow at 11:00

-Maybe get a job?

How [not] to be a mom…

March 20, 2008

My friend forwarded this to me. I also saw this in a book in San Francisco and it has other images that are a bit more gruesome.
